- 3–4 medium bananas, sliced
- 2 cups sponge cake, pound cake, or vanilla wafers (crushed or cubed)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to prevent banana browning)
- Optional: caramel or chocolate sauce for drizzling
Instructions
- Prepare the vanilla pudding. If using instant, whisk with cold milk per package instructions and chill. If making homemade, heat 2 cups of milk with ½ cup sugar, 3 egg yolks, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch over medium heat, whisking constantly until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract and let cool.
- Slice bananas evenly and toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- In a trifle dish or individual serving glasses, layer vanilla pudding, cake cubes or crushed cookies, and banana slices. Repeat layers, ending with a pudding layer on top.
- Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Spread or pipe over the top layer.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.
- Garnish with extra banana slices, crushed cookies, or a drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce before serving.
Notes
For a vegan version, use plant-based milk, vegan pudding mix, and coconut whipped cream. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free cookies or cake.
